The RMB Namibia Ride for Rhinos cycle tour is a fund raising cycle safari that takes place in Damaraland from 24 to 28 October 2015. This Travel News Namibia initiative is in aid of Save the Rhino Trust Namibia, and hosted in co-operation with RMB Namibia, Cymot, Wilderness Safaris and Namibia Exclusive. The tour can only accommodate 20 riders on a 4-night trip in the concession areas in the Palmwag Conservancy, and promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to explore this important conservation area, home to the largest population of black rhinos on earth.

The goal of the tour is to raise funds for SRT, and create awareness for their efforts and challenges. SRT operates in a remote, rugged area of more than a million hectares, with few fences, no national park status and no control over who goes in or out. For the past thirty years, SRT has patrolled the area, resulting in the rebound of rhino populations from the point of near extinction. An effort all Namibians can be proud of. Yet, there is no time for complacency. Organised crime syndicates are here targeting our rhinos and SRT is intensifying its efforts in the face of this threat.

The tour is both mountain-biking challenge and scenic “saddle-back” safari. With a tented bush camp set up by Wilderness Safaris and gourmet dinners prepared by Chef David Thomas, it promises to be an unforgettable, and truly Namibian, experience. The trail offers cyclists both challenging mountain-biking terrain and visually stunning landscapes. One day of the tour will even focus on actual rhino tracking with experienced SRT guides. Guests can look forward to enjoying some of Africa’s best wines around a campfire each night, hosted by specialists, including Dr. Conrad Brain, SRT board member Ginger Mauney and the CEO of SRT, Simson Uri-Khob, who will inform and entertain with stories from the field.
